The Golden Gate Bridge protest was easily one of the most powerful experiences in my life. At the beginning of the demonstration, people were crowded on the San Francisco side of the bridge while several people shared speeches, information, and experiences. There was immediately a strong sense of unity and community there as there were people handing out free masks, first aid, snacks, water, and even signs. Then people started heading across the bridge while chanting and holding their signs up to passing cars. So many cars honked or slowed as they passed us to take pictures or hold up their own signs. Half-way across the bridge we knelt for 8minutes and 49 seconds in memory of George Floyd. The most powerful part of the protest was on the way back. As my friend and I reached halfway on the way back people started filing onto the road. The cars slowed and moved with us as more and more people went into the middle of the road. A few policemen started to get annoyed that we were holding up traffic, even though no car showed any signs of annoyance, and tried to get us to move. Instead of listening, we oinked in the pigs’ faces and kept walking. There were so many people of various walks of life coming together and standing up for social justice.
